Punjab’s employment market in 2026 is driven by manufacturing, agriculture, food processing, textiles, logistics, healthcare, education, retail, and a growing services sector. Services now account for nearly 41% of total employment, significantly above the national average, while industrial hubs such as Ludhiana, Mohali, Jalandhar, Amritsar, and Mandi Gobindgarh continue to generate demand for skilled workers. Since 2022, Punjab has attracted approximately ₹1.5 lakh crore in investments, with government estimates indicating the creation of over 5 lakh jobs across manufacturing, IT, healthcare, and allied sectors. However, educated youth unemployment remains a challenge, with the 15–29 age group unemployment rate around 17%, highlighting a gap between available talent and industry requirements.
Looking ahead, Punjab’s employment base is expected to expand through industrial investment, digital services, renewable energy, logistics, agritech, and advanced manufacturing. With manufacturing projected to grow by about 7.3% annually and services by 8.4%, demand for skilled professionals, technicians, engineers, healthcare workers, and technology talent is expected to rise steadily through 2030. The state’s focus on business reforms, industrial corridors, startup development, and workforce upskilling is likely to support the creation of several lakh additional jobs over the next five years, making Punjab an increasingly attractive destination for both employers and job seekers.
